Our commitment

We want to hear from you

If something has gone wrong, please tell us. Many concerns can be put right quickly and informally by speaking to the tutor or course lead at the time. If that has not worked, or you would rather not, use the procedure below. Raising a complaint will not affect how you are treated on any course, placement or assessment.

Not for urgent safety concerns. If you are worried that a learner, patient, child or adult is at risk of harm, do not wait for this procedure: follow our Safeguarding policy. A complaint about how we handle your personal data can also be made to the Information Commissioner's Office, as our Privacy notice explains.

The procedure

How a complaint is handled

1

Make your complaint

Email enquiry@mdacumen.com with "Complaint" in the subject line. Tell us your name, the course, class or placement concerned, what happened and when, and what you would like us to do. Please raise it within three months of the events, or of when you became aware of them; we will consider later complaints where there is good reason for the delay.

2

Acknowledgement — within 5 working days

We will confirm that we have received your complaint, tell you who is handling it, and ask for anything else we need.

3

Full response — within 20 working days

We will look into what happened, speaking to the people involved where needed, and send you a written response explaining what we found, what we will do, and any remedy we can offer. If a complaint is complex and we need longer, we will tell you why and give you a new date.

4

Review by the Director

If you are not satisfied with the response, write back within 20 working days asking for a review. The complaint will be reviewed by the Director of MD Acumen Ltd, Prof Rajesh Varma, or, where the Director was directly involved, by another senior member of MD Acumen Ltd who was not involved. You will receive a final written response within 20 working days of your request.

5

Credit-bearing modules: the awarding university

If your complaint concerns a module or award that carries academic credit — a Certificate of Advanced Studies, an undergraduate ECTS module, or credit for an observership — and you remain dissatisfied after the Director's review, you may take it to the partner university that awards the credit, under that university's own complaints or appeals procedure. Decisions about marks, progression and awards are matters for the awarding university under its own rules. We will tell you which university and procedure apply, and co-operate fully with it.

Good to know

Fairness, confidentiality and records

✓
Fair and impartial. Your complaint will not be investigated by the person you are complaining about.
✓
Confidential. We share details only with those who need them to investigate and resolve the complaint. Complaint records are kept as described in our Privacy notice.
✓
Placements. Where a complaint concerns a host surgery, we will work with the surgery's lead supervisor and, where relevant, your home university. Matters about patient care in an NHS surgery are handled under that surgery's own NHS complaints procedure.
✓
Learning from complaints. We review complaints at each editorial cycle so that what we learn improves our teaching and administration.
✓
Support. If you need any adjustment to make or pursue a complaint, for example a different format or someone to help you, please tell us.
