Overview

National teaching, delivered through the College

To convene a course for the Royal College of General Practitioners is to teach at the centre of the profession: courses are commissioned by the College, quality-assured within its professional-development programme, and opened to general practitioners and primary care clinicians nationally. Prof Varma convenes and delivers two such courses in the current RCGP programme — the Menopause Update, delivered as a national webinar in July 2026, and the forthcoming online Migraine Masterclass webinar this September — each built on the same standard that underpins MD Acumen's own postgraduate teaching: current evidence, precise clinical reasoning, and learning a working clinician can apply in the next consultation.

Both courses below are official RCGP events. The Migraine Masterclass (Saturday 5 September 2026) is open for booking on the College's events platform; the Menopause Update listing remains published there as the College's record of the delivered course. The buttons on this page take you directly to the relevant RCGP page.

Menopause Update: HRT Precision & Holistic Management

A national RCGP webinar on precision HRT prescribing and holistic, whole-person menopause management — convened and delivered by Prof Rajesh Varma.

Menopause consultations have become some of the most demanding in general practice: patients arrive better informed and more divided guidance-wise than ever, and the prescribing decisions — regimen, route, dose, duration — carry long-term consequences. Convened and delivered for the RCGP as a live national webinar on Monday 6 July 2026, this update took delegates beyond one-size HRT towards precision prescribing and holistic management.

Precision HRT — matching preparation, route and regimen to the individual woman: her symptoms, her risk profile, her preferences.
Risk–benefit conversations that hold — communicating evidence on breast, cardiovascular and thromboembolic risk accurately and without alarm.
Holistic management — the non-hormonal, lifestyle and psychological dimensions of menopause care, alongside HRT rather than instead of it.
Current UK guidance, applied — translating the present guideline landscape into confident, consultation-ready decisions.

Migraine Masterclass — Online Webinar

A focused two-hour online webinar on the commonest neurological disorder in general practice — booking now open on the RCGP events platform.

Format update — August 2026: this course is now delivered as a two-hour online webinar on Saturday 5 September 2026, 09:30–11:30 (BST), replacing the previously advertised four-hour in-person interactive session. Booking remains open on the RCGP events platform.

Migraine affects millions in the UK, yet much of it remains undiagnosed, under-treated, or managed on repeat prescriptions that no longer serve the patient — at a time when the therapeutic landscape is moving faster than at any point in a generation. Convened and delivered for the RCGP by Prof Rajesh Varma, this two-hour online masterclass webinar on Saturday 5 September 2026, 09:30–11:30 (BST) equips primary care clinicians to diagnose migraine with confidence and treat it to modern standards.

Diagnosis with confidence — a structured approach to the headache consultation: pattern recognition, red flags, and when imaging or referral genuinely adds value.
Acute treatment done properly — getting the fundamentals right, and avoiding the drift into medication-overuse headache.
Prevention and the new era — who should be offered preventive treatment, and where the newer targeted migraine therapies now sit in the pathway.
The whole patient — migraine across the life course, work and womanhood: comorbidity, contraception and menopause-adjacent decisions included.
