1 · Who it is for
GPs, GP registrars and primary care clinicians
Practising clinicians in UK primary care who prescribe for people with type 2 diabetes, heart failure, chronic kidney disease or resistant hypertension.
3 · Coverage
Partial by design: one lunchtime webinar of four cases. It does not replace a programme.
4 · The award
The RCGP manages this event and issues its own record of attendance. MD Acumen issues no certificate for this webinar.
The award statement for P7 is the College's own (D-174).
5 · Course Director and signer
Professor Rajesh Varma, PhD, Director, MD Acumen · Professor and NHS GP Partner & GP Trainer
Professor of primary care and a practising NHS general practitioner in Hertfordshire; GP Trainer and Convenor for GP Trainers, West Hertfordshire; a former examiner for the GMC PLAB examination; founder of the MD Acumen School of Postgraduate Medicine. About the webinar
The prescribing dilemma
Newer cardiometabolic medicines have changed primary care, and have raised practical questions. Who should receive a GLP-1 receptor agonist? When is an SGLT2 inhibitor started in a patient without diabetes? Where does finerenone fit?
This is a 60-minute case clinic built around the patients in the waiting room. It uses four cases, not a lecture on pharmacology.
What you will learn
Four things to take back to the consulting room
- Differentiate the clinical indications for the newer cardiometabolic medicines.
- Navigate step-up therapy for patients with multimorbidity, safely.
- Deprescribe with purpose, to reduce harmful polypharmacy.
- Implement the safety checks: eGFR monitoring and sick-day rules.

8 · What changed this month
The living curriculum, in public
Guidance is watched for change; when a cornerstone guideline moves, the affected teaching is reviewed, re-signed and re-dated by a named clinician.
Each entry names the module, the change, the signer and the date. The list is read from the learning platform; where it cannot load, see the change log.
Questions receive a personal response from Prof Rajesh Varma: enquiry@mdacumen.com.
