The course

Euro-MidLife

Euro-MidLife is a blended intensive elective on Midlife Medicine — the mid-life transition in women and men — organised in six pillars: menopause (with osteoporosis prevention); andropause; early-stage cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome (CKM stages 0 to 3, including thyroid disease); psychological midlife change; cancer screening; and evidence-based longevity. It is taught through European health policy and through European policy on inequality, data and artificial intelligence. The programme is proposed, subject to university confirmation.

Proposed for March–April 2027, subject to university confirmation. Eight joint webinars are followed by one on-campus week.

Euro-MidLife

Live webinars: Tue 16 Mar – Sat 10 Apr 2027, Tuesdays and Saturdays. On campus in Georgia: Mon 12 – Fri 16 Apr 2027 or Mon 19 – Fri 23 Apr 2027. Workload: 120 hours (4 × 30 h). Host: a partner medical school in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Learning outcomes

  • Explain the Union’s competence and instruments in health, and evaluate how each bears on health disparities, artificial intelligence in healthcare and equity in health governance for mid-life health.
  • Explain the endocrinology of the mid-life transition in women and men, and distinguish physiological ageing from pathological decline, as the cited guidelines set it out.
  • Apply the Golden Triangle to a mid-life condition, and appraise the evidence for longevity interventions, distinguishing guideline-endorsed interventions from unproven claims.
  • Construct a policy-aware, multidisciplinary triage and management plan for a complex mid-life presentation, justified by guideline and version.
  • Construct and defend an original, policy-informed case analysis, declaring any use of AI tools.

Assessment

Methods of assessment — the same structure in every delivery

Two summative assessments: a 60-point interim examination, sat in person at the start of the campus week, and the 40-point capstone project, submitted in writing and presented orally in the campus week. Formative quizzes support learning and are not graded.

ComponentWhat it involvesWeighting
Interim examination (summative)Single-best-answer examination: 40 items at 1.5 points each, one hour, sat in person at the university’s Examination Centre on the Monday of the campus week, before campus teaching begins. At least 11 of 60 points are needed to be admitted to the final assessment.60 points
Capstone project (summative)An individual, policy-informed analysis of a clinical case, allocated from an anonymised case bank or, where available, an anonymised case from the student’s own clinical experience, benchmarked against a stated European objective (2,000 words; 5–10 references in Vancouver style; up to 4 tables and 4 figures). The written project is submitted on the learning platform by 12:00 on the Wednesday of the campus week (25 points) and defended before a faculty panel on the Friday of the campus week (15 points).40 points
Formative self-assessment (not graded)After each Saturday webinar: a formative quiz, with worked answers, for practice. Separate from the interim examination and the capstone project.—

8 · What changed this month

The living curriculum, in public

Guidance is watched for change; when a cornerstone guideline moves, the affected teaching is reviewed, re-signed and re-dated by a named clinician.

Each entry names the module, the change, the signer and the date. The list is read from the learning platform; where it cannot load, see the change log.
